Astronotify is built by stargazers, for stargazers. We believe observing the cosmos shouldn't come at the cost of your digital privacy. We operate on a strict principle of minimal data collection, zero commercial monetization, and full user control.
We do not track your activity across websites. We do not use third-party advertising cookies, invasive analytics SDKs, Facebook/Meta pixels, or browser fingerprinting technologies. Your browsing on Astronotify remains private.
Your information is used solely to power the astronomical forecasts and transit calculations you ask for. Your observing coordinates are used only to evaluate local weather models and compute satellite orbital geometry.
We never sell, rent, lease, or share personal information with data brokers or marketing affiliates. We do not send marketing newsletters or sponsored partner promotions. The only emails you receive are your active stargazing alerts and occasional critical service updates.
You retain complete ownership over your account. You can delete your account and all associated observing data at any time directly from your Profile settings. Deletion immediately and permanently purges your records from our databases.
We only collect data that is strictly necessary for the application to function.
Data collected: Your name, email address, securely hashed password (or Google OAuth user identifier if you choose to sign in with Google).
Purpose: Authenticating your account, protecting your account security, and delivering your requested notification emails (clear sky alerts, ISS transit predictions, email verification).
Data collected: Site name, latitude, longitude, elevation, Bortle rating, and your custom observing criteria (maximum wind speed, maximum cloud cover, minimum clear hours, minimum night duration).
Purpose: Used exclusively to query meteorological forecasts for your site via the Open-Meteo API and compute high-precision SGP4 orbital transit tracks across the Sun and Moon. We never access or track your real-time GPS location in the background.
Data collected: Ephemeral session tokens, encrypted cookies, and transient IP addresses associated with active login sessions.
Purpose: Keeping you logged in securely, defending against automated brute-force attacks and registration spam. Session records are invalidated immediately upon logging out or deleting your account.
We treat your inbox with absolute respect. Astronotify will never send you promotional spam, sponsor marketing, affiliate links, or third-party ads.
Sent when your location's weather meets your clear-sky limits, or when the ISS is modeled to transit the Sun or Moon. You can toggle each alert category individually or unsubscribe with a single click.
Essential transactional messages: email confirmation links, password reset links, and two-factor authentication codes.
Rare, service-wide announcements strictly regarding major features, substantial platform updates, or essential changes to the Astronotify service.
You maintain complete autonomy over your data. You may delete your account at any time without having to contact customer support or jump through hoops:
Anonymous, aggregate numerical performance counters (such as cumulative cron execution statistics or aggregate platform health metrics) remain in place. These counters contain zero personally identifiable information (PII) and ensure the platform continues running reliably for all users without breaking database integrity.
